By Rakesh Gupta : Do you want to see a blue tick on your Twitter account? Well, that is possible. The process to apply for a verification badge is pretty simple on Twitter and it takes less than a minute to do that. The micro-blogging platform takes a few days to verify your account. But, don’t get too excited as Twitter can also reject your request to add a blue badge to your account. The platform has set some criteria for the verification badge, and if you fail to meet the requirement, then you may not get the blue tick.

The social media giant says “your account must represent or otherwise be associated with a prominently recognized individual or brand, in line with the notability criteria.“ If your request for a verification badge gets rejected, then you will get a notification from Twitter. This doesn’t mean that you can never re-apply for it. As of now, there is no limit on how many times you can apply for the badge, so users can always re-send requests for the same. Though, you can only do that once a month.

How to get verified on Twitter

Step 1: Open Twitter on your smartphone and tap on your profile icon.
Step 2: Now, tap again on Settings and privacy > Your Account.
Step 3: Go to “Account Information” and you will see a ”Verification request” option. Just tap on it and press the ”Apply now” button. After this, you can follow the on-screen instructions to drop a verification request. You will be asked to verify your identity.

What details do you need to submit for Twitter’s verification badge?

Twitter will give you three methods of verifying your identity. One of them is the “Official website,” using which you can provide the link to an official website that references you (or your organization) and your Twitter account.
The second option is “ID verification.“ Here, you will be required to share a photo of a valid official government-issued identification document, such as your driver’s license or passport. The third one is “Official email address.“ If you choose this option, then Twitter will ask you to provide an official email address with a domain relevant to the notability category you choose.

Twitter: You may lose your blue badge for these reasons

Twitter’s support page says that once you receive the blue tick on the platform, it can also remove it at any time without giving notice. This could happen to you if you decide to change your username or handle name. Further, if your account becomes inactive for some time or if you make any changes to your account after getting verified, then Twitter will remove the blue badge.

The company says that one can expect this to happen if the changes appear misleading or if users substantially alter the persona present on your account. In addition to this, if at any point in time your account falls under the ”Ineligible” category after you make changes to your account, then you could lose the blue tick. Lastly, if a verified personality loses the position for which he or she got a blue tick, then the verification badge will get removed.
